Honda engine noise issue

My daughter has a 2004 honda that is making a weird ticking sound. I can't seem to isolate it. Just wondering if anyone here has an idea on what it might be.

188000 all the time, but worse under load. No codes. It does sound like top end, but with a stethoscope I couldn't isolate it, so I don't know.

Has it been progressively getting worse for a while or did it starting making noise all of a sudden? Have the valves been adjusted?

She just got the car. I didn't notice it at first, but it's quieter at idle so maybe I just didn't notice. We haven't done any work to it.

I can’t tell if it’s valve train noise or bottom end. If it’s coming from the top end it may just need a valve adjustment. Timing chain issues (guides and tensioner) usually sound like a dragging noise and I don’t hear that. VTC solenoid failure usually makes noise when you first start the engine and it goes quiet so I don’t think that’s it either.

An oil change might be the first (easy) task and hope you don’t find glitter.
