Hey Everyone...Another build thread here on a 72 Jimmy.

A little back story. Three and a half years ago I met the woman who is to become my wife at a Halloween party. We lived in on the coast and spent a lot of time out playing in my 95 F-150. After moving to north Texas we attended a local mud event. The F-150 has a 6” lift and 35” wild peaks and a locked 8.8 rear…. Nothing made to play in the deep mud pits… nice interior and all. During the weekend she decided we needed a truck we could play in. Well we talked about it for a few days and I told her I could build a truck for mud and light rock but it was not going to half ass it. She had to make a choice… The truck that “we” both build or the honeymoon. It took her about 3 minuets to talk me into the getting a project truck. “A honey moon last a week, a truck is a lifetime of fun … we can always go to Jamaica later” Her own words.

A few days of looking and I found what I wanted … a 72 non running Jimmy for $1500. Less than a week later it was in our drive way. The carb was trashed, the fuel tank has holes and Guinness for fuel, no rear brakes and lots of cosmetic work, no top, and doors that were in the bed. It had a 350, 350 THM, 203, 12 bolt rear and 10 bolt front. I have always wanted a First Gen Jimmy and now this one is mine.
It took about a month to get it street legal, tags and inspection, but man it was a blast, even driving in the snow we had over the winter.
Over the past year I acquired a 14 bolt,HD Dana 44, and a 205 T-case that I twin sticked. I installed a Detroit in the 14 bolt and did a disk break conversion as well. At this time I am in the process of prepping the rear frame area for the 14 bolt. I am using rust built for my rust control.

Sorry for the long post but its gives you some incite to what we are building and why. And Yes she does help when she can.

Awesome! Subscribed.

Im a bit baffled someone took the time to do the cage and run it "into" the rear seat lol.

lol, yeah the rear passengers may be a little uncomfortable, but hey, safety first, right? :)

Looks like you've got a fun project to play with for years to come. Welcome aboard.

Deuling, Im not sure why the rear bar and the rear seat were done this way. The seat is also welded to the floor. This is all done by the PO or maybe the folks before him, In truth I will replacing the roll cage in the future...

As of not the 14 bolt is painted and ready to go back in. The front axle is stripped down and waiting its turn. I'm going to wait on replacing the front axle till after the wedding.

The rear springs are now off, the rear shackle hanger and bump stop hoops removed. I am preping the frame for everything to go back on. Not sure if i am just going to rattle can it for now or rust bullet it. I have a few spots that need to go to the frame shop and be patched. Not sure my welder is enough to do the job (110v wire feed from Harbor Freight). I may wait to get that done to apply the rust bullet. Ill get pictures of the damage up soon.

The weather has not been cooperating the past few weeks so not much has been done.
