Hood latch and hinge lubrication

What kind of lubricant do you use on your hood latch and hinges and how long does it last?

I used to use white lithium as it was recommended for long lasting applications like this but, I never liked the mess it makes. I've gone to a simple silicone spray and it seems to last just as long without a much of a visual mess.

I’m not a fan of white lithium. I’ll check out the silicone spray.

But mostly because I almost always have a can and I also don't like white lithium for the mess.

I try to always use silicone spray for generic things like this anymore. White lithium was great but as stated, it is visually atrocious.

I lubricate it periodically with blood from my head catching that big latch hook on the hood.

Fluid film. Penetrating oil at first if they are stiff and rusty.

I used white lithium grease on the window regulators of my 68 Camaro 20 years ago. I recently had to remove it all, as it had turned into hard, cakey chunks serving no purpose at all. It was a mess. I also used it on my boat's steering system; there too it is now a worthless mess. I now use silicone spray for any similar application...

I’ve had similar experiences which is why I’m steering away from it. I picked up some silicone spray so we’ll see how that works.

The only drawback is you will have to reapply it more frequently, but on a hood hinge, that's a snap! Good luck, brother!

Hood hinges or any hinge for that matter, by far, Tri Flo. Strikers I use Lubri Plate. There are basically 2 kinds of silicone spray, Dry and Wet. Wet is what I prefer. RV slide out lube works well too. Wall Mart usually has it in the camping section.

First I’ve heard of Tri Flo. I’ll have to research that.
So many new lubricants on the market since the last time I bought some which is why I asked.
