Well, my hood latch finally gave out and is beyond repair, so I was thinking of going with two hood pins up front now instead (since I'll be going this route someday with a glass hood). What do you all recommend? I seen some at Summit Racing, but some offroad specific ones at Autofab.com. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What would make them off road specific? I think a set of regular pins would work just fine. What's wrong with your latch? Should be able to find one in a junkyard fairly easy/cheap.

do you have any suggestions on where to mount the center pin? did you go to the radiator support or fab something up for them to mount to?

i desperately need to get my hood down tight. on the highway past 55 my hood comes up in one corner...ugh

On my truggy I run parts store regular hoodpins .

What I did though , was stick my spare spring bushing halves UNDER the hood as a sleeve on the pin :D

I used regular auto parts store pins.. They were too short to bolt through the rad support and the hood. So, I welded the nut to the top of the support got the pins adjusted where I needed them, then welded the hole thing solid. I also left the factory spring and secondary latch in place just in case... Seems to be working fine so far.

I only pinned mine because my hood lifted on the corners when I was on the freeway. Hood was cracked in the center and still doing the seagull flapping after I rewelded it... found the pins at the a wrecking yard... don't know what hood pins usually cost, but mine were $1, plus $8 for a hole saw so I could cut some scrap aluminum for the hitch pins to sit on... welded the pins directly to the core support. Never really wanted pins, but never wanted my hood corners flapping on the freeway either..

I wonder if anyone makes a bolt on bracket for the core support... I'd like pins for the same reasons above, my hood corners flap. Those autofab ones look pretty cool too.

Any parts store has them. I bolted mine to the radiator support works good.

Think the autofab bushings could be used? I just like the idea of not having metal on metal contact in an area that could potentially flex.

I see your point. Mine are all scratched up but so is my k5.

Those autofabs were on my old 74 when i bought it, the rubber part that bolts to the top side of the hood is cool but pulled up over the bolts that held it to the hood after awhile because there is hardly anything for the bolt/screw to hold on to.
