Okay, got some hard core tech here for ya guys.:D

Big Ugly's horn has died. Well, it's not working and I don't know why. I push the button on the wheel and there's a click under the dash in front of me. From experience with my Suzukis that situation usually means the horn itself is dead and everything else is doing it's job...so I think I need a new horn. Right?
Nothing worse than someone doing something stupid in traffic and all you can do is flip them off knowing that they're so oblivious to the world around them they didn't even see you do it.
Where is the horn anyways?

I have a few horns left over from previous vehicles/projects so I was thinking I'd replace the defective horn (assuming it is) with one or two of them. Maybe run high and low tone horns at the same time just for something different.

Just for ****s and grins I disconnected the Tracker's horn and set another horn next to it, made a jumper wire, and ran one of the Tracker's wires to each of the horns and then the jumper between the two. In my mind that should make them both go off. Neither worked right, one sorta went off but it's kinda old. However both worked fine when they were the only horn hooked up.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just the Tracker having a small charging system and not being able to power both horns while not running?
What is the proper way to hook up two regular horns?

Anyone got any recommendations on simple but loud horns? Not looking for anything special like those train horns or the compressor powered ones. Wouldn't even mind something out of the junkyard as I've heard some that I really liked. My Ranger had a nice tone to it and so do the 88+ GM fullsize IFS truck horns.

Take the old horn, with a pair of jumper wires.

Go from the spade on the horn to the + batt terminal.

Touch the horn mounting bracket to the - batt terminal.

If no honk, then bad horn.

FYI, Caddies in the 70s had nice loud horns.

I know you said no trains... but hornblasters.com

watching their videos has me laughing my a$$ off.

Yeah, funny **** but a bit more extra crap in that engine bay then I want to have.

Just looking for a regular horn setup, if maybe something louder and/or different sounding.

3...I think both horns are good as when they were hooked up by themselves they sounded fine. Just wondering if the Tracker's electrical system, while off, doesn't have enough oomph to power two horns?
Then again maybe the circuit specifically for the horns isn't big enough?
I just used the Tracker because it's on jackstands in the garage right now with the hood up and Big Ugly's squished into the other corner and damn hard to work on...stupid small garage...

Use a VW bug horn. I used to put them in all our dump trucks.:D

On a side note, why bother (Besides legally speaking) From what I see on the road every day, no one can hear you anyway. Windows up, stereos up, talking on the cell phones.

I've found that horns definitely get heard.

Around here it's less of the thumping music people that need to be honked at...

...like today on the way home from work...

...it's the 80 year old white hair who slept through half the turn light as I whacked the steering wheel and screamed out the window in frustration...

if you want one cheap/easy to find Id say one from a crown vic or town car.. their pretty loud for taxis....

Starting to think there's a loose connection somewhere.

While driving it home from work yesterday I smacked the horn button when someone cut me off and...probably to my surprise as much as theirs...the horn went off. Now it seems to work but I bet the next time I try it won't.

Where's the friggin' horn on these things again?

Normally they are mounted at the front of the radiator support. I have two, one on the drivers side and passenger side, mine have a mount that extends out to the inner fenders.

The reason the two horns didn't work together probably isn't the circuit... It sounds like you wired them in series, you have to wire them parallel to eachother so both horns get full voltage.

Also I've had so many problems with horns on my truck its not even funny. Most of my problems came from bad horns, bad connections, and bad contacts in the steering wheel.

Dammit...no ****ing reply notifications again...

Hrmmm...well, me thinks I'll just find a horn I like the sound of and replace Big Ugly's...when I find it.

Horn doesn't work again. Same friggin' intersection only further back this time...someone sleeps half through the light again and I'm sitting there whacking the horn button to no effect...
Got time though.
Today was the first day snow was predicted here but luckily it didn't show up. Big Ugly's been filled with diesel and treated to the DEEEE-lux car wash. Barring unforeseen circumstances it's a hangar queen for the rest of the snow season.
