Hose Clamp Pliers

If you have the factory type flat clamps with the little square tabs, then there is only one worth fooling with.
The second one with the cable.
It will only handle those type, but once you use it, you will kick yourself for not getting one sooner.

Not only will it reach in where your hand barely goes, but it locks in position and holds the clamp open while you slide it off or on.

Worth it at twice the price.

I use the second type, but it's on a VW.

Does the cable style work well on the type of clamps pictured below? These are the ones that can be a pain.

I always use the needle nose pliers on these.
If I start collecting more specialty tools I will never stop.
It's good I am not spoiled yet by using one.:dunno:

Those are the ones its designed for. I have done without specialty tools and made do many many times for other things.

But that is one tool I would never do without. It makes those clamps fun.

Kidding me right??? There is a tool for those little bastards:doah:

I am buying some tommorow...This just made my night. I hate those little clamps, especialy when they are old and bent. No more reaching with some needle nose pliers with my elbow bent the wrong way trying to reach one.

Not only is there a tool, but it will make you like the darn things. As long as the clamp is not totally screwed up, I prefer them over the other type now.

The tool will reach down where your hand won't go, unclamp it, and hold it unclamped until you want to put it back on.

However, if you take it off the hose and leave it in the tool, its usually best to release it since the hold the tool has on it is not bulletproof and the clip can go flying if you bang it on something.

I have been lucky and all mine were in a good position. I replaced most of them with standard hose clamps.

On many vehicles, you cannot access the clamps with anything BUT those cable type pliers!...the car makers have sadistically located many upper and lower radiator and heater hoses connections in impossible to reach (or even SEE) places ,where you cant get a screwdriver or socket on a regular worm gear hose clamp on one to tighten or loosen one.......................................................................................................personally I hate the springy type clamps, they dont hold tight enough sometimes, and more than one I have seen rust and fly off, allowing the hose to pop right off....they can fly out of the pliers and stick in your eye too,if your not careful....but you have no choice but to use them on many vehicles.....its just another step backwards adopted by car makers IMO...to make servivcing them a real nutcracker for the average backyard shadtree mchanic...forcing you to buy another "special tool"...

agreed.
