I think if you stick to crimping single wire hose you should be good. At work we use the Gates OmniCrimp 21. But for a hand crimper that one should work fine...You could always smack the handle with a hammer One nice feature of the OmniCrimp that I think really adds to the quality of the crimp is that you set the machine to crimp to a certain depth which is dependent upon the type of hose and fitting. By setting the depth you know that the crimp isn't too deep and compromise the strength of the crimp and you know it is deep enough that it wound blow apart at the rated pressure of the hose....
