When I took the Blazer out for it's first real ride in April the bare floor seemed to get too hot, not too hot for shoes but hot enough you didn't want to leave your hand on it. Last time the dogs were oh so cute puppies so everyone was constantly holding them, now they are 65 lbs knuckleheads so no holding them anymore.

My only plans for floor covering is Raptor bed liner this winter, will that make a noticeable difference? With no top or doors I really just wanted to bed liner so it would be easy to clean.

Single exhaust, driver side, probably 6" between the pipe and floor.

Suggestions?

I run some of that stick on heat shield under the drivers side floor of my cab. Made a BIG difference.

Exhaust looks good

@skunked this quote is from Bent's build thread. A quick search didn't return anything in your build thread, any info / did I miss it?

I'm not sure if I shared the specifics in the build thread but it was simple adhesive style heat shielding that I stuck to the floor (under) my cab. Under the drivers feet the two exhaust pipes merge within a few inches of my floor (flat belly) so the floor got damn hot. Now it can be 95+ degrees outside with the engine at operating temp and I can put my hand on the floor. I'm pretty sure it was summit brand and it's available in a variety of sizes.

What areas does the heat cause issue?

I too have no floor covering, and have noticed that the floor gets warm under my feet, as above the pipes merge under the drivers feet. Perhaps not as bad as yours, but it's noticeable, particularly when the weather is warm. Welcome in the winter lol.

I plan on installing the factory heat shield that was for the catalytic converter. Do you still have the converter and/or the heat shield?

The sections of floor I’m concerned about are the passenger front and all of the rear passenger floor. I figure the dogs will end up on the floor behind the front seats.

No converter and no added heat shields. I think there might be a factory one under there somewhere but I’d have to look. The muffler is roughly under the seat to just behind it.

Sounds like you are setup about stock then in terms of routing. Would be interesting to know if you have the heat shield there...if so, obviously it doesn't make a huge difference.

AFAIK you could still get stripped versions of these things up until the end, makes me wonder what GM did for heat mitigation? It's definitely uncomfortable, even through shoes at times. Then again, you've also got a 454, so you are pushing more heat through the exhaust than originally.

Mine was originally a diesel, and has additional heat shields on both sides where the stock mufflers sat, do you have a heat shield back near the muffler bolted to the body? Don't know if those were diesel only, or used on gas as well, just on one side due to single exhaust.

I put DEI's transmission tunnel heat shield under my '90 after @mrk5 posted his results with it and his crewcab. It isn't cheap, but I didn't notice the floor being warm at all in Moab with 95* outside temperatures and the A/C going with the windows down. I did put Summit's asphalt/aluminum covered sound deadener on the inside too.
Not getting cooked inside a black truck was nice!

I'll see what I have for heat shields tonight.

I had to make a couple of heat shields above the mufflers and cats. I have a true dual exhaust with two cats and two mufflers. (Been that way for 15 years). I made mine from aluminum with an air gap. I also used the heat shield sticky back stuff. I’m going to replace it with actual heat shield metal (flexible) that I picked up from EBay.

The K5 never came with a dual exhaust so I had to add the heat shielding. Do you have the factory type carpeting with the heat padding under it? Mine didn’t, I also added that because of the exhaust and Arizona heat.

Interior floor is much cooler now.

No floor covering at all at the moment, it’ll get bed liner after thanksgiving.

I’ve been busy all weekend so I never looked under it to see what shields it has or doesn’t.

I get the driver side floor getting hot because of the exhaust but not the passenger side.
