Hot Rod Drag Week 2023

Registration late March, who’s trying to sign up, and what’s plan B?

I will be signing up. If I miss the first cut I will be sending an email with my info ASAP to get my place in line on the wait list. If I still haven't heard anything I'm going there anyways so I'm there in person on reg/tech day. Allegedly they have never turned anyone away that showed up on day one at the track...

Mark and I are discussing logistics right now. There are a few possibilities.

No brainer is myself and my "passenger" drive to Mark's place first. 99% sure I'll trailer my car down at least to Mark's. Some things that need sorting is can we set the cars up well enough that we don't need to tow small trailers? If so there is a possibility of Mark sourcing a two car wedge trailer and we can "carpool" to the first track, picking Wade up along the way.

Another option is unloading the Zero Fox in Pueblo, renting a small U-haul trailer and driving both cars to NC from CO. Both have overdrive and both should be tame enough to be able to do that easily.

I have seen a lot of people run it without trailers, its definitely possible, but you have less tools and less spare parts.

I think when you get all done, the simple thing is decide what you want to bring with you, and see if it fit's without a trailer.

If you don't have a spare trans, etc the largest thing might be the rear tires, many people don't run there sticky rear tires the whole drive.

I remember when I went to drag week to watch, do they still have that award where they seal your hood shut and you can go for the fastest without opening your hood?

I don't think I would do that, ha ha.

I gotta get insurance this week now...dammit. Also need plates, can't get those without having it inspected and it ain't done enough to inspect. Might have to BS the form a little...

I know that on power tour, people put their DD plates and insurance in when signing up. They really don't care for that tour.

So my plan is this:

Get insurance this week, or early next week. I can insure anything I want here without plates or even reg. That will get me a policy number that will be valid for the car. As for plates, we can run YOM (year of manufacture) plates on old cars here. They treat them like vanity plates. Has to be the year of the car, and you have to have both plates, and nobody else can be using that particular combination of numbers or letters already. I have a matched pair of '57 Alberta plates I was planning to use. I will just follow through with running those once I'm ready for inspection and reg later this year. In the meantime I'll have something to fill in the form...

I started getting all the documentation ready for my racecar so it could hit the streets at some of the AMC races and the only hiccup I have had so far is the insurance company... had to send them pics of all 4 sides, engine and interior and they flipped out over the engine not being original to the car. Once they realized the engine is "kinda" close to the original they were pretty easy to deal with and my agent said she liked the restoration!
Car now has a title in my name, new 68 vintage plates & will have registration once I supply the insurance info. It was a lot easy to do than I thought.

Man that sounds like a pain!

I went with Hagerty, was 100% truthful about the car and it's value and intended use. Was able to get it done online in minutes, for $500 cdn a year. No pics needed. Told them it will be raced, cruised, and taken to work once in a while....

I'm with Statefarm and according to the agent I'm dealing with, they have teamed up with Hagerty now.
Statefarm has been doing declared values for a couple years now and I have my house and all my toys insured through them and I get a pretty decent deal through them.
Think I pay about $2400 a year but that includes my dd, 3 trucks, 3 AMC's & 3 trailers. The AMC's & trailers are declared value policies.
When I added my Matador, it only added 120 a year to the bill. They asked for pics of all the declared value stuff but started the policies before I got them turned in (I'm a bit lazy)

I think the issue with the race car was the amount I needed to insure it for. A concours AMX is valued at about half of what I'm asking to insure this heap for.
The other issue is it's Statefarm and their agents are mostly computer jockeys that have to fill in all the blanks or their system kicks it out and she definitely isn't a car person.
But she's really nice and cute!
