What are things that go along with Sleeper's?
Like clever phrases, and witty similies, characters, etc.

I'm trying to think of an underhood "mural" (if you want to call it that),
But don't know much about sleeper-car culture.

*I'm just gonna do something simple. Think '2D' Cartoon. Nothing crazy.

The ideas I've had are "too obscure for yer average person".
^ Direct quote from my wife.

:dunno:

I was leaning toward a "sneaky", or "gotcha!", type thing.
So, when the hood's up, its like "yea, its a big block."

I have ALWAYS wanted to build a sleeper hot rod. I think of a sleeper hot rod as kind of a beater with a hella bad ass drive train. Primer, maybe even a few different colors of primer. Missing trim pieces, a dent or two. But, underheath the hood is a fire breathing MASSIVE big cubic inch torque MONSTER, with a more on the moderate side cam and compression so as not to sound too radical with that BIIIG cam lope and compresion crackle to it.

It sounds good, but not radical. You get the HP and torque out of the cubes. And a NOS system. No blower whine so as not to give it away. No turbo's, just a BIG motor on squeeze. And when I mean big, I mean like a 632ci or bigger BIIIG full race mountain motor in a fairly crappy looking car. Sure it's got a mini tub for some decent tire width under it, but not a pro street look. You can still have a very clean nice interior too, just cosmetically outside it looks less then. You could have a nice ride too like that but a real sleeper is the unexpected beater thet will wip ANY hot rod out there.

I helped build a beater 69' Chevelle like that once. It was not with that kind of motor but it did have a 1000hp 468 big block chevy in it. And it looked like hell outside. We gutted everything out of it we could to make it as light as possible. Thing squated hard and would yank the front wheels no problem. Ran high 9's. Someday I hope to build myown sleeper. It will be on the nicer side paint and body wise, but will be hellfire under the hood.

my dad used to race this guy who had a 60-something ford pickup, all rusted out, multiple colored panels on it, built 390 with a 6-pack. would beat my dads nova by half a fender everytime, but the nova only had a 262 V8 in it.

I've seen a few beat looking late 80s/early 90s volvo and benz station wagons with VERY built small blocks in them. One was a 240DL wagon, blown 383, ford 9", etc.

I don't know what the art is called or if it can be made some how? But, it would be cool to have dual image where from one angle it's just a simple truck and from another the tires are expanded and the engine sticking out of the hood blowing smoke and flames:woot:

I've always wanted to do something stripped down with kind of a stock car theme, like the Monte Carlo in that fast and furious movie or the purple Canadian version of a Chevelle the member on here has.

I am sooooooooooooooooo not a sleeper guy..... :haha:

my vehicles have always been "in your face obnoxious!" :haha:

Best sleeper I ever built was an 82 Buick La Sabre 4 door. 2.? V6 died. Built a 402 SBC, 550 HP with carb on the dyno. TH400 manual valve body. 12 bolt spooled. Hung a Paxton super charger off of it.

Ended up narrowing the rear end to put 10.5 tires under the fenders. Custom built rear wheels fit the stock hub caps. A true sleeper. Got beat by one corvette. I gave it to my sister when she turned 16.

A friend gave her a license plate ring that said "IF YOU CAN BEAT ME, YOU CAN EAT ME". Dad was not happy.

I did have a pretty stock looking V-8 Vega.. but you had to be pretty stoopid sitting next to that at a light and not thinking it was a V-8.. :haha:

Agree with this as well.

Alot of what is posted here reminds me of the rat rods. Sleeper to me is a vehicle that could be the grocery getter. A wagon or something along those lines. Looks like any other car you see on the road but goes like hell.

That describes my Buick.

My little BMW will be a sleeper. Plans are a 525 hp LS3 crate and a T-56 in a 2750 lb car. Should be fun without advertising...

I wouldn't paint anything on it. Kinda goes the opposite way from sleeper.

The Monte will be sleeper under the hood. Intake, valve covers, et al will be the factory GM black. Functioning A/C and cruise. Only the nice set of wheels wrapped in corner carving rubber and a pair of big pipes will be the tell.
