How bad will a front axle spool/locker be on-road?

Actually I don't think driving in snow with a welded front and only 1 hub locked in will be anyworse than a locker. It might even be better since it won't be unlocking and locking as you get on and off the gas like the locker does.

Up untill 2 weeks ago it was my DD, now I'm driving a gas siper Subaru for the DD. But with manual front hubs it's a non issue on the street :wink1:
I thought it would pull to the side that is locked (with just 1 hub locked in) but I don't have any problems with that. And I have tryed it with either hub and it makes no diferance, so I just unlock the P.S. hub and lock the D.S.

Mine is welded. I have been told if you are going to have one hub unlocked let it be the short side. The longer axle shaft is a little more forgiving. :dunno:
That is a FACT! I'm gessing that it flexes more without snaping.

So overall would you guys just recommend open diffs for now, and save my money for selectable lockers? My gears came in and now is the time to either reassemble it, or order a new diff.

I was comparing driving in snow and ice between a locked front and an open front. For those conditions I would want an open front. So I'd save up for a selcetable locker.

Sounds good, then the axle is going back together tomorrow! Thanks for all your help everyone, I'm glad this thread was so productive.
