how big electric fan?

how big of an aftermarket electric fan would i need? 74 blazer with 350tbi/700r4 with a/c need more info just ask, also any suggestions or extra parts needed when putting one in appreciated
 
I recommend a setup out of a 95 or 96 ford windstar, its a duel fan setup that fits the stock radiator almost perfect. I think I paid $40 for mine at a junkyard and it has no problems keeping my 350 cool
 
Do a search on windstar fans. You need a couple of 30 amp relays and a some wire. Come off of the alternator with power to the relays, 1 for each fan. I used a temp switch for the first fan, and the AC power ( when AC gets turned on ) for the second fan, also a switch wired in for the second fan.

GNERGY, what is the temp switch from? Do you have a part number? What temp. does it turn the fans on? I'm running Windstar fans now, but on a switch.
 
The temp switch i am running is a 185* one that I got at napa, Echlin part #fs300 If you need a higher temp one 205* that came on older camaros the autozone part #MT494. I started out with that one first but it seemed it was letting my motor get too hot. I am running a 180* thermostat.

Search ebay for a lincoln Mark VIII fan, highest rated single fan out there. I use one on my street/strip car, works great.

Which is better to run the dual wind star fan or the taurus/mark VIII fan setup?

Looking into swapping out my mechanical to electrical.

Single fan for me works fine. Secondary is backup, although could be used for AC, whatever. I'd prefer the lightest electrical draw necessary, but that is dependent on radiator efficiency, ambient temps, AC/no AC, engine size, etc. as to "what is enough fan".

Really quite a few variables here, is the Mark VIII dual speed? The Windstars seem to fit pretty well (although they should really cover the entire radiator, but good luck with that when adapting an OEM fan) but I'm not sure what the Mark VIII's look like, although I did see a police Crown Vic fan last time I was at the 'yard, which was pretty massive.

Florida, and Offroad use only. Stock everything except for headers, carb, lift etc. No ac either.

I like the dual fan idea because i can switch to the low speed when waiting or idling around. Then kick both fans on when I need to for multiple reasons and of course there will be a over-ride switch to shut them off when doing water crossings etc.
 
The problem with having manual control of a fan is you need to keep an eye on it. I know many who have forgotten to switch the fan back on high and start overheating because of it.

The fan controller will control to a set temperature for you. A simple toggle can turn the fan on/off completely.

Yeah that is true regardless of the route I take I will for sure have an override shut off and turn on switch. Still debating which way to go. :thumb:
 
I am not a big fan of electric fans on trucks but i use mine for towing alot and they don't seem to handle it as well. The old mechanicals work great.
 
If you need it for water crossings, guess you don't have much option, right?

There is no way you could get me to run electrics without being on some sort of control that didn't require my input. Yes, you could leave the fans on all the time, but why, if not necessary? There are plenty of on/off switches out there in various temps (check Echlin catalog if you want to find your own) or there are always adjustable. Never quite understood adjustable, but I suppose if a temp switch isn't made for your desired temp range, you are out of luck.

I would think in Florida, you'd want/need as much airflow as possible.
