How Can I Increase Torque On A 1983 3/4 Ton Dually 4 Door 454 Carbureted?

What parts are those. I have an L29 in the garage that wants to get bored out. It’s gonna end up with after market efi as I got it with a long block. Trying to figure out good rotating assembly and heads to put on it.

Pretty much what Beags said.

Scat stroker w/ 1pc rear main kit, Dart heads and I'm hoping the factory fuel injection will work with bigger injectors.
Best bet is to replace the heads IMO. The bowls are 96cc or so and with a 486/496, the compression would be too high with a flat top piston.
Plus by time you screw with all the machine work to put decent springs on it, go with larger valves and such...might as well start with new castings.

I stole the pic off some other sight. Think that build used a GMPP 502, short block, Brodix heads and factory fuel injection. I'll try and find the link.

Didnt do bad without the boost.

And Pro 1's are bad for low end torque. Great for mid to high end, but rectangle port heads kill low end

I thought pro ones were mentioned. They're rectangle. If they weren't, my bad.

Edit: the pro 1s I looked up we're rectangle in the pics.

Large oval with small runners are perfect

i said, i would want to access what you want to tow (how much weight?) and what your rear axle ratio is first before messing with the engine.

Wrong place for that??? Build crazy engine first and then figure out all the "details" to make it work later.

There's been so many post/questions on this 'burb. 2wd/454/th400/4.10/possible part-time hot shot truck with basic car trailer.

My point is, there may not NEED to be a reason to mess with the engine.

I went to a local shop about putting in a L29 454 motor with tbi and 4L80e transmission . He said I need the harnesses for the 1983 Silverado c20 dually

He said it will cost 3000 in labor .

I told him can he take the original carburated 454 motor and turbo400 transmission and keep it as labor he said he didn't want it, to him it's raggidy . Despite in good condition

He's a Ford guy, he got two First Expeditions, one with a V10 and another which is a 6 door dually 4x4 with a 6.0 turbo diesel Powerstroke . Both custom made by him

A L29 does not use tbi. It's a sequential port fuel-injection system.
You need the harness out of the truck it came out to splice it. Not a different truck, more or less a truck they never made.

You need to find a shop that is ran by a Chevy guy, ( in order to work a deal like that) you should have known that would be pissing into the wind.

You may be and probably are correct...but! Where's the fun in that?

@blackandgold51
The L29 is an easy swap, especially in a truck with a 454.
  1. Buy L29 complete with acc, harness & trans or a complete 2wd 98-2000 C2500/3500
  2. Send harness to be modified & ECM flashed (delete egr/cats, play with timing, etc...normal stuff to make the green folks happy)
  3. Buy fuel tank out of tbi sub
  4. Buy GM tank kit (Skunked has tons of good info on this)
  5. Install everything (yes, I know...easy to say but not complicated. Might need drive shaft shortened and drill a few holes for the trans cross member. All basic wrenching and doable over a long weekend - unless you are @TreeFarm, then you should be able to complete this on the commercial breaks during the evening news one night!)
  6. Drive & enjoy!!!
On a general gripe. Have a new pc and it auto-corrects tank to Trump.
Not sure if I hate it more or less now!

What you are wanting to do is very impractical. And, if you are looking at towing cars as your main source of income, THIS IS A VERY BAD MOVE.

Update:

I talked to a guy yesterday who i know in person that owns a local transmission shop, I asked him can he install a 4l80e in my vehicle which e said he can and can also get a kit where he can convert the transmission to non-electronic. I asked if I find a 454 l29 motor with the transmission that he can take the current motor which is a 454 along with the Turbo400 on it as a cost saver, he said he will think about it although he wants a Buick 455.

If i get the l29 motor along with the 4l80e transmission ill let the guy just keep the carburator on and get it fuel injected later, or if i find the transmission only, ill just keep the current 454 motor and get it fuel injected later since the motor does have over 148000 miles and runs good. Plus he said he'll take the turbo400 as a discount.

Before that happens i'll just drive on i-90(which is safe) that has 40 to 55 mph speed limit instead of the i-10 interstate that goes from 60 to 70 mph whenever going to
Slidell, louisiana or Gulfport, Mississippi and back to New Orleans since i can only go up to 55 to 60 mph.
