Hey guys,

got a question concerning my 700r4 (MD8, K -housing):

Transmission is solid, got a matching troque converter, tranny cooler and stuff.

Are there any other things I can do to make the 700r4 last a long time? I still need a TV Cable setup (hope setting up the TV cable is not too painful) Is there a tv cab le eliminator kit? Already googled for that but didn'T find anything  (Which doesn'T mean that there ain'T such a thing available)

Thanks and greetings, have to get back in my garage and clean up all the mess (removed trans, np208 and the rusty smallblock) and cut my old frame to pieces)

You need the correct TV cable bracket, the correct length TV cable and then set it up. There is no eliminator kit because the TV cable is crucial to making the 700R-4 not only shift and work correctly, but lasting a long time. Incorrectly set TV cable is probably the single most common reason 700R-4s fail.

They're very easy to set. You depress the locking "D" tab and pull the cable sheath all the way towards the firewall, then depress the gas pedal all the way. The TV cable sheath will ratchet out, and the "D" tab will lock. Done deal.

What Rene said is true about the TV cable. If you want a little more understanding of the correct setting, read this article: http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php

For longevity, change your fluid regularly. The guys at Bowtie Overdrives told me to use the cheap tranny fluid and just change it every 15k miles.

Hey guys,

thank you very much for your advice! I already read quite much about the issues with the TV cable! THanks for the links too! I'll check my parts manuals and get me the right cable and bracket!

-Another question about the Th700 r4

How do I know/figure out if the lock-up works/ or if it exists? got the transmission out of the truck , can make some pics when required. Thanks again!

How do I know/figure out if the lock-up works/ or if it exists?
All 700R4 transmissions have lockup, so it certainly exists. If it's out of the vehicle, about the best you can do for function check is to apply 12V power to the lockup solenoid and listen for a click (but all that means is the solenoid works). If installed, get up to and hold cruising speed (55+ MPH) in overdrive on a flat road, then just barely touch the brake pedal (enough for the brake lights to come on, but not enough to actually apply the brakes) and the engine RPM should rise by about 300 RPM.

In stock form, the TV cable controls line pressure in the 700R4, and if it's set incorrectly you'll burn it up in no time. So, you can't eliminate the TV cable.

However, you can mod the transmission so that the positioning of the TV cable isn't crucial to longevity.

This valve body keeps the pressure constant in the transmission. Once installed, the TV cable is simply used to set the shift points.

not trying to barge in, but how is your TC controlled on ur truck? TPS or some other way? Also, what is different about an '85 700r4 that excludes it from the kit? thanks

It describes the reasons in the SuperChevy link Bavarian posted.
