I would like to check the timing marks inside the distributor to make sure it is close. I need to find TDC first on number 1 cylinder.

I looked but did not see any timing marks on timing cover for advance or TDC. From under neath I just saw the crank sensor.

Am I not finding the timing ledger on timing cover or is there not one.

thank you

Here is how I set mine up. Doing it this way only gets you pretty close...not perfect.

1)Remove the distributor cap and find the position of the #1 spark plug wire.

2)Rotate the engine until the rotor is approaching the #1 spark plug position.Insert a pencil (eraser end first) into the #1 spark plug hole until it rests on the top of the piston.

3)Move the crankshaft back and forth until the point at which the piston is highest in the cylinder is found (i.e., the pencil is at its furthest point out of the spark plug hole). This is Top Dead Center; mark it clearly on the crankshaft pulley with white paint.

the distributor doesn't adjust timing, it adjusts crank/cam sync. it will run with the dist unplugged.

Is your timing chain cover the plastic one? If so I believe there is a v groove in a little piece that sticks out. You should be able to see it from the top right hand side.

This is correct. Also on the distributor body near the cap seating area there is an (8) and a (6). Point the rotor to the # that matches your # of cylinders.

Assuming your on TDC #1 cylinder and line the distributor up as stated your correlation will be close.
