How can I tell what kind of t-case I have?

If you do some cleaning on the back of the t-case, you'll probably find a round emblem that says new process, might be a 205 if your lucky.

the 208 is the "weaker" tcase, and the 205 is what everyone wants and is the strongest one. i run a 208 and havent had a problem with it.

I have a 208 and I beat on mine. The slipyoke makes me uncomfortable sometimes but I broke a front driveline and did not hurt the case at all.

All trucks in 1980 came with the slip yoke NP205. So in essence you have an awesome T-case with a crappy slip yoke. Luckily you can swap the parts to make it a fixed yoke.
