How common is D60 death wobble?

lol Your right my axle came out of my buddies 79 crew cab long bed dually. Anthing not true and straight is going to have issues.

Well, if that's the case. How come 95% of the DW you hear about is coming from D60s?

I see death wobble all the time on rigs with smaller than D60 axles.

Death wobble is common on D60's because their kingpin springs are often worn out (again, >20 year old axles) and people use big tires on them.

Big tires on a (worn out) balljoint axle would do the same thing.

The kingpin spring is way cheaper and easier to replace than any balljoint. IMO there is no reason to be afraid of DW on a kingpin D60.

i had it on my 10bolt with 35inch bfg at's. caster angles were effed up with the 6in lift i had put on it.

any solid axle front will get the readed dw if the conditions are right. its a big problem on the brand new ford superduty's as well with lifts and big tires.

i got it on my 10 bolt with 39.5 i think also most people with dana 60 dont run a sway bar wich acts alittle like a pan hard or track bar.
also liek said before d60 and bigger tire thats why most people put them in because they are up sizing everything

I guess that's why I always see d60 with DW problems. I've run 38s on a couple K5s now with a 10b and now on my D44 without a problem. I just always thought that the DW was more or less restricted to D60s

nope and its not only chevy that has the problem.
I can take ya for a ride and scare the sh out of ya it is so bad.. front axle moves side to side a good 6 to 8 inches i bet. Mine only does it at one speed and bumps dont start it or the brakes only one speed. If i turn to on eway or the othe rit goes away, applying brakes dont help. I Have since went to a higher lift 6 over a 4 and the leaves are thicker and more of them problem seems to have gone away. Its not a dd so i just have been living with it. It will go for ever not do it and then bang it wont stop doing it. lower tire pressure makes it go away and if i run smaller tires ie stock it does not do it at all. My conclusion mine is tire related and having a soft spring pack.

my old 10 bolt was really bad with 35"mt's, but once you got up to 50mph, it went away. My rebuilt d60 had death wobble when i put it in, but nowhere near as bad as the 10 bolt i had, so i just ran it and re aligned it and was good to go. I wasn't about to dump a dime into the 10 bolt, so i delt with it, btw, ive never ran a steering stablilzer with success on either axle, usually within 15 minutes of trail riding, im getting out to remove a smashed/bent steering stabilizer that bound up my steering, did it to each axle and said never again.

well thanks for all the info. I was thinking about finding a D60 recently cuz the 4.10 gears I have aren't gonna cut it in my d44 and was thinking about going ahead and up grading the front axle along with the gears. Only thing is I hate to start rebuilding another axle after I just got done rebuilding this one:crazy: but I guess it 'd be better to put money into something better than to keep putting money into my d44.

Might just save up and find one that is rebuilt. We'll see
