no hijack I'll x2 that query. Someone else on this thread said machine work alone might be 2 or 3 hundred

Block prep ->$180
hot tank
magna fluxed
install cam bearings
install soft plugs
bore .40 over
remove and press new pistons on rods

polish crank->$25
To turn the crank it was $50 but mine did not need this.

Rebuild heads $150/pr these were on exhange from the machine shop.

complete rebuild kit -> $329
Came with everything including
new pistons
new bearings
new lifters
high volume oil pump
crane cam
felpro gaskets
double roller timing chain
I'm sure I'm forgeting something
I purchased my kit from the machine shop. I figured it was easier to negotiate price if I got everything from them.

I also added roller rockers but that was on top of the $684 but not really neaded.

For another option, if you decide not to rebuild yourself, you might contract these folks http://motorworksengines.com. They're located in Spokane, WA which I hope is close to you, and offer several options on built motors, short & long blocks, etc. Pretty impressive stuff on line. A few months ago, I was looking for a crate motor and contacted them. (I ran out of money before I was able to do anything about a motor) The guy that runs the place was really informative and seemed to know his stuff. They've been around for a while and might be a good option. The prices were very reasonable. Good luck whatever way you go.

That is what the 302 cost.
$189 for block prep and $359 for the engine kit.

I did the heads and polished the crank.
This machine shop also sold long blocks for a reasonable price. With a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty.

Hey thanks for the link. Spokane's a bit of a drive but probably cheaper to drive once than freight for two engines. Decent prices too.

Yes but check with them anyway. My old Astro blew the engine and the local Napa carried Motor Works rebuilds. Dropped it in, replaced all the hoses, and the A/C compressor and other components for less than $1600. The 4.3 was much stronger than the tired old one that it replaced, but was even stronger than the engine in my current Astro.

Never had a problem with the engine, dropped it and it started first crank, then I got to trace down the vacuum line I had hooked up wrong.

Point is, they probably have a distributor local to you.
