My fan is to deep in the shroud. I am thinking about sourcing a new shroud. Tell me year and make of shroud and measurement from fan opening to radiator bracket.

On my 84 K10, small block with all factory front engine accessories and factory style fan clutch. Blade stick out is 5/8 of an inch with the factory 3 blade fan. 9 and 3/4 from back of shroud to core support. Probably different depth on a roundeyeIMG_20220704_124044292_HDR.jpgIMG_20220704_124057068.jpgIMG_20220704_124221848.jpg

thank you. I think part of that shroud is also holding the tank. extra 3" with same water pump and V belts seem impossible, if not securing the radiator too.

Is it possible to trim your existing shroud enough without making the opening too big?
How much needs to come off to expose some of the fan blades?

it is possible, I think 1/2" would be enough. If I look across the shroud so I line up the 2 edges, I see an 1/8" to 1/4" of blade. There is a slight angle on the shroud.

I would be investigating trimming it at an angle to match the fan better, personally. Aftermarket shrouds aren't very good in how they seal to the radiator, in my experience. My '70 big block one doesn't seal well, couldn't find a factory one as easy, though.
I really doubt that you will mess it up to where it doesn't work for you.
I think that a small circular saw on the inside would be easiest route for a straight cut, but maybe that's not the best method.

I want to trim the one in my '90, but it has the double lip configuration, and an angle as yours does. Looking forward to seeing what you do and the results.

I think I am going to see what the factory fan looks like before I do any trimming.

After installing a larger radiator, I trimmed the front edge of my shroud. There was a nice line to follow which took off 1/2 to 5/8, don’t recall exactly. Worked out real nice.

I’ve read a lot of various posts and through a lot of articles on fan shrouds. Every “expert” or post from a manufacturer all state the same thing:

1/3 - 1/2 of the blade outside of the shroud and about 1” clearance at the blades’ edges.

I started looking at factory setups from other makes / models where everything was still stock with the mechanical fans. They consistently looked like these dimensional recommendations.
