Just wondering how difficult it is to take every part off an existing door and put is on a new door shell and then hang the door on the truck, it has power windows and power lock. Anyone ever do this? Best place to start? Where to be careful? Any words of wisdom will help.
I just found this site yesterday by the way. It is awesome. I can’t stop reading all these posts. I am fixing up my 1990 K5 and there is so much helpful information. Way better than the fullsize chevy forum. Thanks to all who respond.

I will let someone else give you tips on hanging the door shell and getting it aligned. However, don't put anything in the door until it is hung on the truck. The doors are heavy without everything, with everything they are that much harder to deal with.

Ditto on hanging it empty. Make sure the new shell has the hole cut for the wires (by the hinges) before hanging it. I would pull the harness out of the the old door and tape it to the dash or something out of the way before removing it. IMO it's easier than trying to fish it out of the cab. Aside from that it's just remove the parts and install reverse order in the new door.

Alignment can be tricky especially if it's aftermarket. As a general rule align back to forwards. In other words get the door to align well on the rear jam side then align the fender to the door. I would get the rear jam gap good then align to the rocker and roof. you will likely have to re-align the fender when you are done.
