I think I need a new compressor because mine is making a ton of noise and the A/C is very weak. I was thinking of getting a new one until I saw it was $$$ and a remade one is about $120. Upon reading up on a new one it said it must be oiled. Maybe mine is outta oil, but it's been making the noise since last winter so I'm pretty sure it is shot, but it's worth a try.

That is what I have to deal with and my truck is a 1990. I think I will take a chance with a used one as long as I am told it's good, plus I wanna hear it and see it work. Looks like I can get one for $35 on-line and some junkyards sell them for $50.

What do you think? Also where do you lube these things?

Thanks!

Oil is carried by the refrigerant. You can add some PAG oil through the low pressure port. Unless your system has lost a lot of refrigerant you won't lose oil.

Man you seem to be on-line whenever I am and are the first to respond. Thanks man. Now it makes since, I need a new compressor.

One thing you MUST know! There are a lot of different types. Be sure to get the right one for your truck. My 1987 take a weird one because it is a half serp and V belt set up. My AC comp is a v belt and take "one number" so make sure you get the correct one.

I bought a NOS GM compressor and it was the type R4 comp but the shaft was to long. So make sure you get the correct number it would be like fourseasons 57235 Delco 15-20517 or GM oem 01131610

I found mine at O'Reilly for $134

Any compressor is going to require "Oil" the biggest thing with a new Compressor is making sure that you pre-fill the compressor with a specified amount of oil first and rotate by hand to lube the seals inside. The Compressors usually come with these instructions when you buy them.
