How do YOU cope tubing/pipe?

How exactly does that notcher work? do you just put a big lever arm on there and it "shears" the peice out or what?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, you take a piece of tubing and make a handle. stick the tubing in, pull the handle, and is copes the pipe.

I have used one of the HF notchers. I think it will be OK for what you're doing.

I have worn mine out. The pot metal backing plate seems to be fatigued pretty bad(it's pretty flimsy to begin with) and both the upper and lower bushings are worn out. I may have used to to cut 50-60 notches... I ended up buying one of these off EBAY.

There is no comparison to the HF notcher...

Here's one for auction

With these types of notchers your limited to the angle and the size of tube/pipe you can notch...

What size pipe are you going to use?

I have also used a chop saw and even a sawzall and a angle grinder with this software - web page

The nice thing about the software is you can print the .pdf file and tape it to your tube to make an accurate cut. Really the only time I use the software is when I have an angle to cut that is greater than the notcher can handle.

I want to do something very similar to those little dune buggies, but I am planning on making the wheel base a little longer(vw length maybe) and a little wider and a much heavier duty frame. maybe like a 3/4 scale fullsize sand rail. With about 15" ground clearance. With rear raptor drivetrain setup, swing arm setup for suspension ride. And IFS, but instead of a crappy little briggs, I will be dumping in a yamaha yzf R6 motor into that bad boy. If I keep the tranny which I pb will, and keep all 6 gears functional, then it will hit 100+ easy. I think I might pick up the old engine out of a buddies sprint car since he races them and knows all the little quirks with those engines. mmmmmmm can you say close to 150 hp in a 500 Ib 3/4 scale dune buggy.
