Recently, my gas tank skid plate took a beating. No I'm not going to cut a hole in the floor to move it up, I still want use of my bed.

Just wondering if we can get a picture or description thread going of how you guys protect the gas tanks on blazer (mostly) and other rigs.

:ears:

My Blazin Offroad rear bumper has a small "spoon" to help, but doesn't do much. Thinking of running some tube from the bumper to where the gas tank front straps mount. Make it all removable. Something like that. Or just bend some steel to hug the tank skid and screw them together. I save some ground clearance and gain 1/4" of steel protection.

Stupid idea probably, but what about going to the smaller tank?

Thumbs up on the cool tank protecting plate above!

I believe the smaller 25gal tank hangs down just as far. I think a fuel cell will be more pain than its worth, especially since its staying in the stock location. I have a 1" body lift, I wonder what the procedure would be to lift the tank up some.

I am definitely doing something like that DIY unit above, but probably just added to the factory skid plate.

Small tank definitely does not hang down as far. The small tanks with 31 gallon skid on them have at least 2" of clearance to the tank. Thats a wild guess, the gap is very obvious. All the M1009's have this setup. I'll see if I can find a pic and you can see if it would be worth it.

Best pic I can quickly find: http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&...82&start=88&ndsp=48&ved=1t:429,r:94,s:0,i:450

You'd have to move the front and rear "strap hangers" from the frame to move the tank up, both are contoured to fit the upper curve at the front and rear of the tank.

Edit: 31 gallon tank hangs down two inches more than the 25 gallon.

25 gallon tank doesn't hang as low, as far as the skid, not sure the difference, assume there is one? :dunno:

That's a very nice skid, I emailed Kert a while back about adding skids to his product line.

What protects my ass is some PO's homemade hitch, it's obnoxiously low, I bang it on evereything, but it does save the tank, but my clearance so bad. I actually got stuck the other day when I went to go fishing cause backing up, the hitch dug in and my rear tires were dangling :D

The older skidplate is beefier than the new one.

I have both and they look like they would bolt up the exact same

Here in a week or so I will decide to beef up the stock skidplate ( newer style) or put on the old one and beef it up
