I'm in the same subdivision situation too. I moved the Blazer inside for the summer and we're just dealing with one of the dd cars being ass-burning hot all the time.
This is my married advice. I forgot what being single is like.
A wise man once said to me,
"If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."
He also explained that the reason divorce is so expensive is because it is worth it.
Having said that, explain to her that you have stuff you do. One of those is the truck and that it takes time to work on it. If she isn't cool with it, expect to fight over it. If she doesn't have anything she can do to occupy her own time, then it gets even worse. If she thinks that she is giving you plenty of time to work on it by acting like it is ok for you to do it at night after she has had all of her attention, tell her to get used to the sound of an impact gun and a grinder while she sleeps.
The real trick to find the girl that doesn't need this explained to her.
There are two ways I get to work on my truck. Weekends, because I usually work too late to do anything at night, but only after the honey do's are done. And that's only when we don't have to go 'do something.' The other way is when the wife takes the kids to Grandmas and I get a 3-4 day weekend to work on the truck.
