I bought a 08 Duramax diesel last year and I keep having injector problems with it.

I first had a #8 injector go bad and this morning the mechanic says #4 is gone now. He also told me that the fuel has more water than diesel. He told me on Thursday that I had bad fuel so when I drove off the lot I filled it up with new diesel from diff gas station. I used up the other one.

I think these guys are pulling a fast one on me. How do you get more water than diesel at a fuel pump???

i work auto mechanics all day. and i have seen and told people switch to diffrent fuel place. i had a guy come in with brown gas in his tank. drained it all out installed new sender/pump unit and inline filter runs like a top now and hasnt gotten that crap fuel since then.

and i have seen the same with other fuels. it dodnt matter . you need to watch the store and see what moves the most and buy only that from them. and how old is the tank system in ground there. in my state few years back thay passed a law no more metal tanks . all systems now polly/ plastic. so all stations had to upgrade then no way around it. that solved a lot of problems.

and with your truck are you checking and draining the fuel filter regularly?

There is a fuel station near my house that people have seen the owner filling the diesel tank with water. You are suppose to drain the fuel filter/water seperator every so often as well.

two years ago when i worked for the chevy dealer, one of the jobs i had was to do a 21 point inspection on all trade ins.

had a 05 ford powerstroke get traded in, the guy was from my home town, and he told me it was always running rough, well he had been getting fuel from the loves gas station which had a rep for bad fuel

i pulled the fuel filter down by the frame rail and it was packed full of mud, same with the one on top of the motor.

a week later another powerstroke was traded in and had a crap load of dirt in it and the guy had also filled up at the loves

so ya i wouldnt be suprised if you had more water than fuel.

our 1 top on the road sales man has a 06 ford 250 with 6.0 power stroke 2wd with 140k miles on it. oem brakes all the way around. and 3 sets of tires only. i change his oil every 5k and every 10-15k it gets fuel filters installed wether it needs them or not. 1 time few weeks ago he got a bad batch of fuel. he gelled up at -15f below zero. i towed it in warmed it up swaped filters and he was good to go.

bad fuel is out there every were these days.

KNOW YOUR STATION AND STICK TO A GOOD ONE IF YOU CAN FIND ONE REGARDLESS OF PRICE PER GAL. it will cost you in the end more for repairs and down time than per gallon.

It's easy for a truck to deliver a load of bad fuel.. there's lots of crap out there on the market, coming from wherever.

I remember right after katrina, there was a lot of fuel showing up here in OH / PA that had so much water and sediment in it, it couldn't be analyzed. real fun when the water froze too. when it's warm out, you get the sludgy bacteria, fungus and yeast.

so beyond draining water separators and keeping tanks full to prevent condensation, it's a crap shoot. you are at the mercy of things you can't control.

Thanks I noticed that both times I put fuel in it, they were from Shell gas stations.

I had always put from Chevron but found myself close to a Shell. I will stop putting gas at the Shell gas station.

The truck only has 5000 miles and I bought it in October of last year.

Is there an additive I can put in the tank when I put new diesel??

This tank now should I drain it?

switching stations sounds like a good idea. who knows where the shell fuel came from, or what happened to it before it got to the pump..

I would drain your tank, just to be sure, and to start over.

As for an additive, I can recommend mine, the ACES II diesel fuel catalyst.

you can read about it here: http://www.americancleanenergysystems.com/products_diesel_catalyst.php

And in my vendor thread.. among its many attributes, it is a water emulsifier.. it'll break up the water molecules, bond it with the fuel and out it goes during combustion..

TIP!!

If you have a QuikTrip gas station near you, their fuel is 100% guaranteed. If you have any problems with your vehicle, and your mechanic will certify the problem was caused by fuel, QT will pay for your repairs. No proof that you purchased the fuel at QT is required. Most stations do not carry diesel though, you pretty much have to go to a truck stop QT for that.

Ohhh! I love the QT. We don't have any in Cali or at least SoCal. I spent 3 years in college in Oklahoma and they are a dime a dozen back there. Great stores IMO. Sorry Ernie nothing constructive to add to your thread. Maybe the guys next door who stole your wallet out of your rig and rubbing salt in your wound:wink1:

None that I know of. Before the problem started I remember pumping at the Shell gas station. Now that I took it back I had just refilled from the Shell again.

I guess I will not be stopping at Shell anymore.

Can I write a complaint to someone about this.

No I did not. I got it back Thursday and immediately I felt the problem. Took it back On MOnday. Drove an hour away and came back parked it and left it. Monday I took it back.

My water in fuel problem probably did come from a leaky top tank cap (the one the fuel lines going to, with the big o-ring). On my 85 K30 single cab, this opening is right between the cab and the bed, so all the rain drops constantly on. Ignored the "Water in Fuel" warnings from the dash and destroyed my injection pump. Remember that the water will stay at the bottom of your tank. Very difficult to tell if really all water/dirt is drained/siphoned out as long as the tank had not been removed from the vehicle.
