How do you keep your build organized?

If you have the space and you're like me, I'd do it like I do all my graduate homework and also the way I've got my shop laid out....with a whiteboard. You just can't beat everything being up there in big letters at the same time. Sort of like the list idea but you can cross things off as they happen, step back from time to time and see the big picture, and add things you may have forgotten quickly. Its just an adaptation of the list idea but more in your face!

Whiteboards ain't cheap but that crappy laminated 4x8 sheets they sell at home depot works well enough for a garage, there are ways to bring it closer to true whiteboard quality, but for me it doesn't matter that much. You can find all sorts of good stuff about home made whiteboards online.

Once I know what project I want to do, I will try to research it completely and make a list of everything I need to do it. Once I acquire everything I set aside time to do it. This is the way I want it to work...bever happens though

I never make lists, when something breaks, I make it stronger.
I do have a notebook where I draw all my sketches of how I want my projects to look, and how I am going to install certain custom parts, but that is it.
I have a full sketch book of my 4x4 van conversion for expeditions, complete with designs os winch bumpers, slider, pop top, inside equipment and outside modifications.
I go as far as details on fabing arms, mounts and what size bolts and stuff, but that is all the writing I do.
I am more of a visual guy, no need for words.:thumb:

I don't keep list, otherwise the wife would find out what I have to order :D
i should do that.

i keep my "need to buy" list on my desktop calendar. every month i rewrite it or change/ update it when i switch to the next month. and usually by the time i go to change over i can see where she wrote at the bottom

quit spending the gawdamn money!!!!

than i put WRONG and do it anyway :woot: :haha:

I use a white board also. I don't do things in any exact order on it though. I like being able to cross things off and see that I'm getting somewhere. I also keep a list on the other side of parts/tools I need to get. Then when it gets all messy and full to where I can't read it anymore, I erase it and start again with what was left. I do keep a list of part numbers on my computer of stuff that isn't oem. Which is almost everything now :doah:
