How do you seal your Diffs?

yea i use the GM assembly adhesive, holds up fine and its free for me.

Permatex "Ultra Black" RTV.... not just the regular black silicone.
(in the caulking tube of course... I can't stand the toothpaste tube)

I believe in the paper gasket... but timing/price/availbility usually get in the way

I don't know what kind of transmission filter you use, but the ones I buy look like nothing more than window screen...

I use the good fiber filters in my transmissions not the window screen cheapies.

If any one else disagrees with my use of the right stuff gasket maker on my transmission please know that I'm stubborn and will not change my ways. I have better luck with the right stuff than I do cut gaskets. If someday I pull a valve body from my burned up transmission and find a large chunk of silicon in it I will post an apology. Until then I will continue this practice. Thanks, for expressing your concern.

Any of the RTV's work fine...as long as they are "ultra". Black is my favorite for all around use.

The Right Stuff is the only sh!t I use on anything anymore. Sold at NAPA and I think Advanced Auto. Kinda expensive, but awesome. I just found out about it this summer by a mechanic helping me out.

Locktite is evil. I only say that cause I recently became unemployed for a company that is part of the parent company that owns the locktite company.


I didn't know that there were gaskets for gm rear axels. All that I have pulled apart have just had rtv on them. Now the gm 10 bolts fronts I have taken apart have had gaskets.

I just pull off the big chunks of the old rtv and goop it up with blue permatex. Never had a leak yet.
