How Does The Glove Box Lock Go Together?

Subscribed.....mine has been loose for awhile now (spinning aroung and driving me CRAZY!) and i gatta see how this thing works.....:D

your retaining ring came unscrewed. See the threaded ring on the knob portion? You need to slip that off past the 2 "keys" that are sticking out of the side - spring loaded. Once you get the ring off, you need to use it to attach the latch portion back to the dash. The latch portion goes on the back side, and the ring threads into it from the front. Need to be tight. You'll figure it out (an allen wrench does not fit into the ring - you'll see what I mean when you get it off the knob portion). To get the knob portion back in, you need to take a large straightened paper clip or a long thin finish nail and stick it in the small hole right in the middle of the knob. Push the little "keys" down as you push the paperclip in. It will hold these keys down. Once you have them both retracted, put it back in the latch portion and remove the paperclip. That should lock them back together.

I've added text.

Edit-- added text for the pictures.
This is how the latch is supposed to look like after you open the glove box.

Move the latch to the locked position like the picture shown. Note the opening with the spring loaded tab.

Using something to depress the tab (a thumb tack worked okay) while pulling on the knob on the outside. Do this twice because after one tab is released another tab is going to fall into the opening while you pull the knob out.

After the last tab is released, the knob should come out all the way.

The hollow bolt which screws into the latch has a strange octagon shape. The regular allen hex won’t work well. I used a big standard screwdriver to turn the bolt. Assembly is reverse of disassembly

Here is the finished latch.

I'm glad it has helped some people.
Hell, I have seen it posted on other forums.

Well, I've fixed the photos which were Photo Bucket. Unfortunately I'm afraid only CK5 user can see it. I've seen this the tech of this thread used on other forums.

I just did one of these.

There is a guy on YouTube that did it on a C10 I believe. Great video.
