How far can I drive without a rear driveshaft?

Converted the slip yoke to a fixed one with the JB conversion. However, now I need a driveshaft and I'm weeks away from even ordering one (waiting for parts to do an axle conversion). So, I need to move the vehicle in the yard. Can I move it in 4wd and locked hubs without a rear driveshaft in place? I could give a crap about the front axle components--they are gone anyway. Just worried about the tranny and transfer case.

I've drove a hundred miles that way, you can move it around the yard.

You'll be fine. Really, you can drive it as far as you HAVE to, i just wouldn't start commuting in it or anything. Around the yard?!?! SURE!

Why would it even hurt to DD with no rear shaft? Other than it being silly and pointless.

Thanks. Just wasn't sure about the uneven torque on the transfer case. I'll move it in the yard, but won't drive it work--yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if some yahoo has pulled their rear shaft simply because front-wheel-drive vehicles get better mileage. Of course we all know that won't help. To get better mileage, you need to lift the rear more than the front so you're always driving down hill:D

I was put in nearly the same situation . I got the sye kit installed on my 241 and i got laid off so the rear shaft and rear springs (removed the block liftinstalled when I purchased blazer). at the time it was my only vehichle. I drove it for 3 months. had an open front diff at the time . Didnt hurt the tranny nor transfer case. It did wear out the d44 yokes though ; well finished them off the 29 years previous did thier share too. Just dont dog it and take corners easy will last awhile.
