How far should slip yoke be in?

How far should my slip yoke be in the t case on a 700r4/208?Right now it's in about 2 1/2 inches.A guy I know has the same truck and hi is in about 4 1/2 -5 inches.

enought to when you flex the yoke doesn't pull out

You can kinda see it in the pic but there is quite a bit of the slip out of the t case.It's a 2 1/2 or 4 inch lift and when it's in neutral I can move the d shaft up and down and the slip moves up and down on the output shaft.

i believe the slip is only about 5" long...i have mine about 1-1 1/2" out at ride height...if my rear end is hanging it goes to about 3" of visable slip...so i think it is pretty safe where it is...i wouldnt reccomend the slip be more than 2" visable...it will lead to worn out seals, bad vibes, and it could round out the teeth in the slip...

Well I have 3 or more inches sticking out with the truck just sitting on flat ground.I think if I flexed,it would probably fall out.Plus if I unbolt the d shaft and slide it in more,I can't wiggle the slip yoke anymore.

When we take our measurements to build drivelines at work, we slide the slip yoke in all the way, pull it out 3/4" and measure center cap to center cap.

It's 29 1/2 inches from center cap to center cap right now.I am taking it to the shop to be lngthened to 31 1/4 today.

I believe mine needs lengthend and its causing a lot of vibes and it will prolly fall out when wheeled.

I have aobut 3.25" showing would that be enough to cause play?

I could wiggle mine at the slip yoke while in neutral.After lengthening it,I couldn't so I know it was causing some vibes.Look at my pic at top,is it out that far?

I remember my stock shaft on stock heigth blazer had quite a bit of the yoke hangin out ,similar to the picture 2-3 inches.

what does center cap to center cap mean?

couldnt i push mine all the way in then pull out till 3/4" is exposed on the yoke and then measure in between the pinion and end of driveshaft ujoints?

Center caps is where the u joint caps goes in.You should have about 1 1/2" of slip yoke visible.
