How hard would it be?

For a novice mechanic to switch a 4wd front end for a 2wd? Id like the option of lowering my truck without having to go nuts with modifications, but i will keep the 4x4 front end for when i decide to go back someday. So basically just wondering if they are interchangeable without great effort with regard to mods, ect.

Second question would be, would it be pretty much bolt up or would i have to modify stuff for it to work?

Thank you, :wink1:

You would be better off just buying a second rig that is already 2wd. It is not something that you just switch back and forth...your talking an entirely different style of suspension, no front axle at all, and a whole different transmission setup, unless you just take off the front drive shaft.

IMHO, I wouldn't ditch 4wd in CO. And I wouldn't cut up a clean 4wd K5 to go the other way with it. It's hard to find a good, clean 4wd anymore. I think you should be looking at 37's, axles, gears etc :D.

Yeah, i was thinking about buying an 80's model s10 and dropping that, it was just a thought. i dont want to start cutting on things and making it so the 4x4 wont be optional later, it will def come in handy very soon, probably this weekend, snows coming! so they say..

ahaha, it's like talking him down from a ledge

everything in the front is different, removal takes cutting, rivets, crossmembers, steering, along with all the stuff that hangs off the frame.
