how high of a lift is too high for a gooseneck on a reg cab k30?

ideally, the truck will get the handmedowns from the k5 when it grows up.
that would be a 6 inch front spring and a shackle flip/aal combo. it will also get the 37 inch SSRs ive got on the blazer now. theyre load range E.

the truck in question is an 87 k30 with 350/465/205 60/14 4.10s and hydroboost.

by looking at my blazer i see the rear deck is just barely under my ribs, but the two goosenecks i looked at today (not mine) the hitch was just above my waist. thats probably four to five inches difference plus the ball height.

ANYways, ive only driven in stock height new trucks, but will that be too much lift for safe towing?

I wouldn't be worried about the safety of it, but you're gonna need to adjust that gooseneck hitch to fit the height of the truck. You DO want to get the trailer sitting level regardless of how tall the truck is. If the trailer is pointing up to the truck instead of level, things get a little weird during hard braking.

How could you not be worried about the safety of it? Putting half ton springs on a one ton then towing a gooseneck isn't going to be safe. What is the load rating on the shackle flip anyway? :wink1:

My truck is lifted 2" and runs 37's and I'd be barely able to hook up a gooseneck either.

I'm running on the general assumption that Obijuan will be towing one truck on a gooseneck trailer. That shouldn't be that big a deal. It should still tow better than a tongue trailer. If he's planning on a triple car hauler or a five horse hauler, that would be different. Please tell me you're not considering either of the latter two situations, right?:screwy:

There's a guy in S.A. with a shop that specializes in diesel performance (N.E. I think) who has a lifted Super Duty and pulls a 24 foot gooseneck car hauler. He came up and got a truck from me, and I gotta say, I was impressed with his setup, it was done right, and handled well.

What Size lift , and tires was he running. On my 99 F250 I have a 5.5" and 35's. I am kinda worried about tongue height with a goose. I really don't want to lower it either.

A 7 inch lift on a 2500 HD is as high as you can go and still be able to tow a gooseneck. I know several people with this exact lift and its also recommended as the highest lift to be used by several installers as well.

Another point to consider is if you adjust the gooseneck down to level the trailer you will soon have clearance issues between the gooseneck frame and the bed sides.

hey brad!
yeah that will be its main duty, the motor went bad so thats a little more important right now than a small lift.

heres the truck in question

i was thinking a four inch or six and the 37s from my k5 for rpms.

yeah i did, still couldnt pass it up. i am going to put the motor from my k5 in the truck and then big block the blazer somewhere down the line. or rebuild this 87 motor and spice it up and put it into the blazer. whichever turns out easier at the time.

That truck reminds me of my '83 that I had. Great find. If I can help with the repair let me know. My dad has a 94 Vette 350 complete with the computer and all. If you would be interested.

making your way to central texas anytime soon? i sure could use a centerbolt 350 right now. it would be nice to not have to pull two motors.

Supposed to be coming to S.A. soon to help my dad change engines in his '92 Blazer. How soon do you want to get the truck going?
