Ok, can someone tell me how important is the o2 sensor on my 87 k5 is ?
I'm installing longtubes when I get to finishing the engine and noticed 1 sensor on the driver side manafold as I took it off. The long tubes don't have a bung , do I need to install one on the collector? or can I omit without
things going nuts. Thanks..........

yes, you need it. measures A/F ratio for the computer, unless you've switched to a carb the O2 sensor needs to be in the system. I put mine in the collector so I didnt have to modify the header. I also hear the a heated 3 wire O2 sensor is a very good idea with the headers.

ditto....

long tubes, you'll want the 3-wire in the collector.....

:confused:Is there no way of fakeing it out without adding a bung? or how far down line can I add it? and thirdly Why would the later 3 wire be beter and how do you change from a 2 wire to a 3 wire?

there is no "faking it out" you have fuel injection. it requires the air/fuel signal to operate correctly... as close to the header as possible is preferable... thats part of why you need a 3 wire.. the additional wire is a power wire for the O2.. it heats it up, which is needed because your farther down the exhaust system than a stock O2...

heated o2 also warms faster for better smoother running truck faster.

put a bung in the collector and wire it up and be done.

and 2 wire o2 ? gm has 1 purple single or 3 wire havent seen a 2 wire.

A 3 wire is 1 signal wire, 1 ground wire, and 1 ignition 12V wire.

Best part is I happen to have a couple of low mile sensors on pipes left over from a dodge out back...$ave some bucks. 2 heater wires tho, guess I can twist em together.

wait a second

I have an 89, I was under it today doing some routine maintenance, and I looked to see if my O2 sensor was looking rank like the rest of the truck, but I couldn't find it! Where the hell is it?

I am just wondering that my 1990 K5 TBI 350 O2 sensor broke (1 wire, its like this for a long time) when I installed long tube, I just leave it sit on the valve cover. it has been quite sometime and truck seems to run pretty good. what should I need to do? (leave it as is or install new O2 in the collector)

your probably getting lousy mileage, at a minimum... it'll get worse over time..

your truck is staying in open loop, as it's not getting a signal from the O2.... when warmed up, the o2 signal tells the ECM and the system goes into closed loop... while staying in open loop, the ECM just works off the fuel tables in it's memory...

here is another question, The exhaust is dual, do I just put O2 back to driver side bank?

The Dodge O2 sensor is the same?

From what I've found most all sensors are the same, Denso, Bosch, ect. It just matters what wires you need. Commonly the black is sensor, grey is grnd. and white is 12v. But you can bench test them if you want with a propane torch and a cheap v & olhm meter and from what I understand if with the hot blue flame on the nipple you get about .4-.6 v your ok , this is after about 5 seconds. Then the v needs to drop back down with in 4 seconds after the flame is gone then its useable. I just need it for the power cause i'm going to be about 50* of the temp needed down stream. they like about 600*f
