It's the 454 that I was running in my Crew Cab... went to Utah and back with no valve seat and a wearing guide and another seat and guide on their way out too.

The shortblock is in good shape, bored .040 over with flattops. I'm putting a pair of 98cc chamber heads on it and the Comp 280 cam out of my 396, along with a gear drive I got from Powermad.

Finally, after 2 years of sitting, I hope to revive my '80 GMC once again...

It could last forever - IF you never start it.
Honestly just take care of it & it will last... :)

I blew up the same motor 3 times over the course of about 17 years. The 3rd time was the last though because a rod went through the block. It was kind of a sentimental loss since I'd had it for so long. I planted trees in it out back...

I wish you many happy rebuilds in the years to come!

Well, i know how you opeuratue, so i'll vote for between 2 weeks and 6 months.

Flat tops + 97cc heads = what like almost 10:1 compression?

Where is the "it won't even be in this truck long enough to blow up" option :D

It actually runs. Another candidate for simplest yet longest-to-install-and-get-running motor. Spent most of the day Saturday fiddling with it, then got it fired later that evening.

Worked on it some Sunday while also working a little on Swamp Thing and trying to get ready for the mud race we hold. Was gone hauling scrap all day Monday, then today finished it up and swapped rear ends, hooked up brakes, rear driveline etc, adjusted valves again and drove it the 85 miles into Spokane.

I forgot how loud Boggers were on the highway at 60mpg.

It's a CHEVY. Take care of it and it will last a lifetime.
A 454 is a great motor.PS Good Looking Truck.

Ok, so you guys who said less than 2 weeks were right. 7 days to be exact, since it came back out and got a new crank and bearings one week to the day after I first threw it in.
