How long have you had your K5?

Got my first K5, a '79 2wd in '00. Didn't have it real long, I was stupid and traded it off.

Got my second one, a '77 in '08-ish. Traded it off after a while, to a member here.

Got another '77 K5 in '09-ish, which is why I let the previous '77 go. Got it from a member here too. Still have that one and I'll probably still own it when I kick the bucket.

If trucks and Suburbans count too, there's been a bunch. Bought my first Burb in '08, still have it. I think my first truck was my '79 K30 that I still have. Bought it in '10 I think.

Bought my ‘82 in 2005 for $1,800
Dad’s ‘86 burb in 2015 for $1,000 (included a set of one tons! ;)

Bought it in 2010 as a stock truck for $1500. Minimal rust, but needed new paint and the interior was rough. It's come a long way since.

Bought my 1991 V3500 Crew Cab in 2003.

My first ever Chevy truck was a 1968 Suburban C20 I bought in 1978. The 396 engine that that Sububan came with still resides in a friend of mine, that I have known since High School, 1965 Corvette Stingray to this day.

Only have this '86 K5 left from a collection of three others.

I got this one in 1991. It had a junkyard 400 sick cracked head engine and a junkyard 700R4 with missing alignment dowels so the trans case was busted and massive internal destruction.

It was clean though and I got it for nothing (beware --- long story coming) after the owner had to bring it up to current registration. It had 6 year old expired tags and had bounced through 5 or 6 states with fines from all all of them, and a tow-off/impound from behind my shop after the jerk left it there for a week after I told him his "brand new engine and transmission" had junkyard identification.marks on them. That brought more charges against it over to $3600.00.

I got it for lien after he had it towed to my shop for a reman'd trans and a core charge and failed to pick it up in a timely manner AGAIN and the tow off and impound started all over again.

But I eventually got paid $2100.00 for the transmission, and liened it for charges and a long line on it and I guess by this time he cut and ran with all the money he put out to sell me a K5 with a rebuilt trans.

I later built a stroker 350 (383) which I will never do again as it doesn't pencil out for expense v performance.

Learned to drive in pops 72 2wd GMC, 3 on the tree. I was 12 in 1976 when he bought 10 acres and built a house, taught me to drive it that summer to pick rocks out of the cornfield errr Yard I mean. Lots of good times were had in that truck. He bought it new, had it one year and put a 396BB in it. He ran that until 87, the year before I turned 16, and went back to a 350. But I could still catch the tires hitting 3rd, you could run 2nd up to about 70. Hmmm, maybe that’s why it started using oil near the end:dunno::dunno:
