How many gorillas does it take?

I am thinking of removing the front clip on my 79 as a complete assembly. Unbolt inner/outer fenders, core support, then remove everything including hood. So how many gorillas does it take? If I were to use an overhead hoist what would be the best way of hooking up to the clip. Or does everyone just take it off one piece at a time?

Once completely unbolted -- tricky with the hood in the way, IIRC -- two guys *should* be able to do it.

Best way to hook up ... hmm. WITH the hood, the center of gravity will be only sort of up front ... I think a sling or two under the wheel wells, for the actual load, and a short ratcheting strap or rope, from up front (i.e. the center of the grille area) to the hoist attachment point, to keep the thing balanced.

Any idea on the weight? I was thinking about the same thing about how to sling it. I may just use the crane hoist to lift it off. Can someone give a list of the bolts at the rear of the fenders I need to get, and also for the inner fenders. I am hoping to just unbolt everthing and lift it all off, just want to make sure I don't miss some bolts.

Two guys can easily remove the front clip once it's unbolted. It will be way easier though to remove the hood first.

As said up above, 2 guys.

With the hood, its awkward and a little heavy on the grille end. With the hood off, its a piece of cake.

Okay thanks guys. Guess I will go ahead and take the hood off first. Any help on where all the fender bolts are located so I don't miss any.

you will have a bolt on top of the fender into the cab. another in the door jamb and another at the bottom of the fender inside the wheelwell. the inner fender should have 2 holding it to the cab. and possibly really small ones holding a plastic guard.

but if you remove them all and it is not really loose and you can't lift it off. then you missed something. :D

Once you crawl under it you will see the the bolts for the inner fenders. As said b4 in the door jamb and bottom of the fender. Then make sure you string the wires for headlights turn blinkers horn out of the clip and disconnect the hood release Then the rad core support mounts. Two guy will easily lift it off.

you can leave the lights hooked up. just unhook the harness at the back of the fuse block. its one bolt.
