I have a 87 chevrolet single cab with a 305/TH400 with 4" light and 33s. My fuel gauge just went out so I want to figure out the mpg thanks.

Driving style has a lotto do with mileage, but an average driver with a semi-stock 305 should get 13-15 without to much trouble.I would top it off, throw a full 5 gallon can in the back, and then top the tank off every 120 miles or so for the first couple weeks. That would let you figure out your range with out having to chance the long walk to the fuel station.

go to station and fill her up to second click , then drive 100 or 150 miles of normal driving for you . then return to the same pump and re fill it to the second click .. get your mpg that way .

Yup. So long as your odometer works you can use it like a gas gauge.

As mentioned, fill it up, drive 100 miles or so, then fill it up again. If you put in 8 gallons of gas you're getting 12.5 mpg (100 miles / 8 gal = 12.5 mpg) and so forth. Then figure out the size of your tank (30 gal?) and you can estimate your range (30 * 12.5 = 375 miles).

Just be sure to reset the trip meter every time you fill up!

That will work to find out how far you can go, but you won't know the true MPG if the speedo is not accurate with the 33's.

Correct. Then its time to brake out teh GPS to do mileage, and rely on the gas pump for gallons.
