[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
actually, every single one of us has a motor in his/her truck, including you

an engine is a TYPE of motor...don't believe me? Break out the dictionary

3.) A motor vehicle, especially an automobile: "It was a night of lovers. All along the highway... motors were parked and dim figures were clasped in revery"; (Sinclair Lewis).

en·gine (njn)

Such a machine distinguished from an electric, spring-driven, or hydraulic motor by its use of a fuel.

Yeah, well you dont call starters starter engines or your wiper motor a wiper engine or power windows a window engine. Motor is a hard definition for an electrical device that produces motion. Though you find engine in a dictionary defined as a motor doesnt mean its correct.

Check out the logic: if A equals B and B equals C then A equals C right? But like I explained: saying ENGINE equals MOTOR and MOTOR doenst equal ENGINE leaves you with ENGINE not equaling MOTOR.

I believe along with my very respectable engines/dyno/air flow teacher at Ferris State University that an Internal Combustion Engine should be referred to a an Engine and that a Motor run off of electricity should be called a Motor.

Nope, every IC ENGINE is a MOTOR, but not every MOTOR is an ENGINE. Go back and re-read the definitions. Just BC an IC ENGINE should be referred to as an ENGINE, it does not disqualify it from falling under the definition of a MOTOR. It's like saying all Blazers are Chevy's, but not every Chevy is a Blazer. The algebra correlation doesn't apply here. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif
