Doing a simple gasket and filter change in my '98 Jimmy with a 4L60E tranny. Pan is 2.25" tall.

It holds 8.5 - 14 qts depending on application.
With a filter change I think only half of that would be drained if that much.
My 4L80E took 6 qts with the pan dropped, and only 4.5 by draining the pan with the plug only.
So 6 qts should be plenty.
