How might this cam sound in this motor at idle?

Hydraulic
Duration @.050 In. 218 Ex. 226
.505/.515 lift

In a 396BB, bored .030 over with the factory height domed pistons, closed chamber heads.

It's a Comp Cams Xtreme 4x4 cam Part# 11-235-3

Someday I'll get this motor together.

It's probably gonna be a relatively smooth idle though. At least in comparison to the cam in the 396 I have in my truck blazer right now. I don't have those specs memorized off the bat, but it idles pretty rough.

I'm just wondering how much milder this is going to sound if I drop in the other motor with this cam.

My 454 runs a Summit hydraulic cam:

I think it's 214/228 @ .050"
and .500" lift on both.

It idles good and runs good to 5500 rpm..

It would probably sound something close to:

*gigiga gigiga gigiga..blup blop blup blop blup blop.. BBAAAAWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA*

I'd say it will probably idle and sound normal. In a small block that'd be kinda big but in a big block I doubt it'd be even noticable.

With 111* lobe seperation, The idle would still be decent. Power from 1400 up is good. Make sure your valve springs are set up to go that much lift though. Most stock bigblock springs won't take over .420 and some hi po springs to .480, Maybe want to get the "k" kit. Other than that it looks good.

I'm running a Comp 268H in my 454, about 1 step below the one you listed. It sounds pretty good. Definitely tell it's not stock and it pulls hard. Sounds even better with open headers /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
