I got an engine today that needs a rebuild and i was wondering how much compression is to much to use with 87 octane pump gas?

If it matters its a heavy duty 350 vortec out of a 98 3/4 ton p/u

When the starter wont turn the motor over or if it does the is constantly pinging no matter what you do. LOL! Depends on application you are gonna use it for and how much $$$$$$ you can AFFORD!

And where you live. Built a motor for a jeep when I lived in Soda Springs Cali. Would run fine up there on 87. But when I went down to Sacto or the bay area I had to use 92.

Won't 10:1 (at least with iron heads) mean that he has to run premium fuel? He wants to be able to run OK with regular. I'd think somewhere in the 9:1 range would meet his goal.

All I run is Premium fuel, Can't stand the crappy milage I get using the cheap stuff......And besides there is NO REGULAR HERE IN CALIFORNIA, Just Unleaded!
