Because shoving the damn thing off a cliff won't get me any money, it's not insured. Can anyone who's done this give me a rough idea of what they got for parting a mostly complete stock K5?

hard to say what condition the truck is in or what you have to part out. for the most part you can make some money parting it out. problem is you have to find the people that need what you have

You will be able to get more for all the parts plus the left over scrap metal than if you sell the rig running and driving. But this means added time you spend pulling the parts and dealing with 100 people rather than one person.

I have a 305 that runs good when it feels like it, a good 700r4, np208, and 10 bolts. Body is fairly solid, interior is messy but usable, and a whole cluster**** of bad wiring and tiny little bull**** problems.

Kenny: basically, I was asking 1500 for the truck before it started being a little ****, now I just want to know how close I can get to coming even on the 1200+ that I have in it. I don't have a problem with pulling parts or dealing with people.

You can look thru the classifieds here, craigslist and ebay to see what things are selling for. Add up what you can get for the major pieces and compare that to what you can get if you try to sell it whole. If you have the time it can be worthwhile.

Wow, that's depressing. Optimistically, I will get $750 for the entire drivetrain. Everything else seems to be worth small amounts.

That's pretty optimistic. No one wants 305's or 10 bolts. Or 208's either. :D

And it will take weeks to get everything sold when you part out a rig. I can tell you it's probably worth $500-700 just in scrap metal if you hauled it in right now.

That's not true... you just need to know who is looking for those parts. The 305 would probably only get $50. The 6 lug 10 bolts are worth more to the classic truck guys building street rods. The 208's are worth $100 to someone needing a stock replacement usually...

Yeah, those numbers were extremely optimistic. K5 tub and frame weighs around 3500#? Anyone know roughly what scrap is going for, places around here are closed by now so I can't call.

i scraped a frame and agot about 150 for it.

if your gonna part it. does it have a factory tach in the cluster?

i have a stepside truck that i bought for parts, did not have engine or tranny, tood the whole front off, the doors and interior, wich i needed most of thoose parts and im barely getting $150 for the rest of it (frame, cab, bed, rear diff.

So id guess putting thoose parts in the classifieds and maybe you get lucky.

For scrap car bodies, $160/ton was the last price I saw... best I saw this summer was $220/ton.

Yeah, now that I've calmed down a little, I might try to fix, again. Eventually you'd think I'd just give up and cut my losses

I think if you were patient, you could get close to $1000 parting it out. It may take you 6 months and a hundred or so hours of pulling and shipping parts though. :D

BTW, anybody need any parts? :doah:

I just sold a 10 bolt front and 12 bolt rear today for $175. It has taken me 3 weeks to get rid of them, plus 4 hrs to pull them from the truck.

I say try to fix it first and then sell it. Do you really want to pawn off your problems on someone else?

From the sound of it it won't take much to fix it up anyway, and then you might just decide to keep it.:D
