While I was looking at junkyards for a trans for my 85 k5, it sat with no trans and the back of the engine was on a jackstand to keep the dizzy out of the firewall. Problem is, somehow the truck shifted and the jack fell out. Is there any possible damage to the dizzy or engine(305)?
Also, does anyone know where to find a wiring diagram for the truck, because I managed to pinch a few wires and I want to make sure I hooked them back up correctly. Thanks

In my experience, likely a busted distributor cap. Obviously want to take a good look at it, but the motor doesn't have a long ways to go before the dist. catches it.

Yeah, I pulled the cap off and there were no obvious cracks or anything. It isn't likely that I bent the shaft is it? If I can be sure, I'll just grab a new cap and be done with it.
Edit: now the damn thing won't start. Automatic trans, so I'm assuming no neutral safety switch, jumping the solenoid wire and it turns over, so ignition switch is bad?

Probably just not adjusted right. Unless you broke it, *very* unlikely it just quit working. There is nothing in there to fail really.

If the cap isn't broken, no point in replacing it IMO. Either it's cracked and the terminals are eroded or loose, or it's fine. :) No reason to throw good money at a part that is easily visually inspected.

Cap I'll just leave alone then. Any ideas on wiring diagrams? I looked at my Hayne's book, but it isn't much help. Are there supposed to be two wires going to the solenoid on the starter? Or maybe another one near it? Or maybe something else in the course of a trans swap that would cause the ignition switch not to work?

Purple and yellow wire IIRC.

Jumping that connector should allow you to start it, but will also allow starting in gear which is obviously potentially dangerous. Or potentially helpful with a manual transmission. :)

I'll take a look at it, though the wire is probably a different color courtesy of the idiotic PO. Thanks for the help

Is it possible I screwed up my timing in all this? When I try to start the truck, it sounds like it is firing, but it doesn't catch and run. I made sure I put the cap back on in the correct position, but I'm going to have to borrow a timing light to check it.

I have a full wiring diagram for that truck. If you need, I might be able to scan some pages and send them to me. Sounds like timing is off or plug wires are not correct for the firing order. 18436572, did that from memory.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I have the wiring sorted out at this point. I'm almost positive I bent the distributor, so I'm going to grab a junkyard one later this week and see how that works.
