How much for a new tranny???

I was coming back from the last round of motocross nationals today when my 1991 4x4 1/2 ton 350 subrban wound up to full song but wasn't going anywhere  . The transmission broke and I limped it back to the nearest town (3hrs) at 15mph in 1st gear which luckily still worked ;) My question is what should I expect to pay for a new tranny installed? $500 :D $1000  or $2000  . An ideas on this would be helpful and are appreciated.

Depends on if you are really talking about a new one or having yours rebuilt. It also depends on what trany you have. 350 or 400 new your looking at around 1200 and up. 700 your looking at about 1800 and up. For a rebuild to be done if you pull it out and have them bench rebuild, anywhere from 350 up depending on who you have do it and depending on the condition of everything.

Like jem said it depends on what tranny you have, i got a buddy that will ship you a 350 fully rebiult to your specs for 580 plus shipping, all you owuld have to worry about then is the labor, a good mechanic, if not busy, should be able to have a 2 day turnaround on it.

What does the word "new" mean ?
