how much is this 1964 gmc pickup worth, in your opinion?

That's the big advantage of living in CA--things last, instead of rusting & rotting away in 5 years...
I've drooled over a few trucks guys bought there and drove back, that had no special care since new,and they still looked practically new, save for some ripped seats and dried up interior parts..

It is sad if no one wants this one because it is so unique looking. Probably heavier than hell too, tho.

I know a few guys who put their slide in campers on a trailer ,that way they can leave it at a camp site and use the truck to go get food, sight see, etc, without having to un-do the electric and plumbing hook ups every time..and carry stuff in the bed they may buy during their trip..

I never really liked slide in campers much, due to the fact they are a pain to load and un-load off the truck without damage..

A lot of weight right over the rear axle. Also, I have never driven or heard of a granny gear. First gear is so low that the front end jumps, it will do wheelies under the right conditions for sure. It's really only drivable (for me) around town using 2nd-4th gears.

That is how my 66 C20 is. I have an HO72 that the previous owner swapped in the early 70's. You should have either an HO52 or 72. They come with 4.57 gears. Factory they never came with a higher gear set. There was an aftermarket 3.90 available for a short time, but they are super rare.

It's easy to start in 3rd. I'm usually in 4th by the time I'm doing 30mph.

Yeah I thought the engine revs kind of high in second and third, I found myself driving in 4th at any normal speed LOL.

Hey do your second and third gears whine? I hear a very slight whine in the low gears but then 4th is nice and silent.

I have a trailer made from the frame & rear axle of a '62 GMC 3/4 ton--it has coil springs, but also has a HO72 Eaton with 4:56 gears,it is a full floater too!--not sure if its a posi,I don't think it is..the amazing thing is the tag is still like new indicating the axle ratio on the diff....cant say the same for the control arms--I had to weld angle iron on them just to keep them from folding up when I got it 20+ years ago..the frame is still like new too..

The two Sm465's I had did have some gear whine in all gears except 4th,your truck likely has a SM420,and those were noisier in the lower gears too,a bit more than the SM465..the gears may be a straighter cut in the SM420?..

Yeah, mine is the SM420 like @diesel4me mentioned. I have a bad bearing in either the trans or the rearend that makes horrible whining noise at certain speeds, doesn't seem to matter the gear it's in, just the speed. I've drained and checked the fluids and they are fine so I'm just running it for now. I do have an SM465 with GV OD to swap in at some point.

Being a GMC it would have a Dana 60. Granny gear is 1st or low, but is stupid low. If it has 4.56s could literally dump the clutch and wouldn't stall.
I didn't think the Dana 60 rears came into use until the 67-72 trucks. At that point it wasn't necessarily a GMC thing but a suspension thing. The early models, 67 and 68 I think, could be leaf or coil with an option to get the other. My understanding is the GMC was standard with coils and you had to special order leafs and the Chevy was vise versa.

That's the info I've found in my quest to find a bolt in Dana 60 for the coil sprung rear suspension.

Every GMC from 66-back had a Dana 60, 3/4 tons. I think the halfs got the 12 bolt, but I haven't seen too many halfs. GMC usually got the leaves, and Chevy got the coils, but was an option to get either. GMCs were truly different back then, not like the 70s where the grille and horn button was the only difference. Local yard has a GMC 67-72 1/2 ton with a Dana 44 rear...

The only coil spring Dana 60 I've seen were the big block 67-72 3/4 ton. Local guy had a 'burban with a 402, factory Dana 60 powerlock, 4.10s i think and had coils. chevy too
