........by replacing my 31s with 33s?

The ol' 84 has a 700r4 and 3.73s. I was under the impression that going one tire size bigger with 3.73s wouldn't affect my performance that much. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Any feedback, brothers?

33's with 3.73s is a pretty good combo IMO. I'm running 3.08s w/ 31's right now, and nothing sucks worst than that! /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

3.73s with a 305 and 33s less than ideal but not horrible. You're going to struggle a little bit on the hills.

31s-33s isn't just one tire size. It's a pretty big jump in the scheme of gears, especially with a 30% overdrive.

I had 2.73s and 31s when I got my truck....thats even worse. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

I had 3.08s with 35s and OD too, can't disagree, that was a gutless POS.

With an oil burning misfiring 305 to boot. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

With O/D to boot. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Remember the black and silver Blazer I had about a year or two ago? It had a 305, 700R4, 208, 4" lift and 35" tires. I ran that thing in O/D and it also had 2.73 gears. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

My Daily driver 84 K10 has 2:73 gears in it with 31's BFG all terrains on it, It runs out good, but will lug in OD pulling a car trailer.

When I had that combo I think my truck would do 90 MPH in 2nd gear. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Nah, you're talking to a kid that ran 33s on 2.73s for a year with a 305/700R4. Now I've got 3.42s and I can't complain. I'd be absolutely giddy if I had 3.73s. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

And there's no real hills in Kansas either /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

I'm taking my truck back to OK next week running the 3.73 and 35's. Been dreading it, but don't think I will have a problem since I'm aware of my lack of gearing /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

The nice low first gear in the 700R4 makes up for the tall rearend, at least for that initial takeoff. First gear is 3.06:1, so 3.06*3.73=11.4138 as the overall ratio in first gear. A Turbo 400 has around a 2.48:1 first gear, so with the same 3.73's the overall first gear ratio would be 2.48*3.73=9.2504. To get close to the same overall first gear ratio with the Turbo 400 you would need to have 4.56's. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif 2.48*4.56=11.3088. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

BTW, I drove my '87 Blazer with 3.73's and 33's for about 5 years without any problems. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif In the 40-55 MPH range just leave the shifter in drive if the tranny starts to hunt between 3rd and 4th. Out on the highway you can cruise 65-80 in overdrive just fine. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Harry, thanks for bringing new terminology to my attention. I like keeping Kim on her toes, and new lingo's good for that, eh? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

LOL, I dont think the jam statement would go over welll here at home! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You will be ok with the tires and gears... the major helper is the 700R4. If you didnt have that Id be laughing at your 'lack of jam'. Hehe.
You wont be winning any street drags, but you will look awful cool while you lose! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
