I have an 87 k5 that i have been fixing up and im new at this stuff, how much lift would i need to fit 39.5", or 40"s under it ?

Kind of a tough thing to answer. It depends on if you're going to wheel it? If so, to what extent? Are you willing to cut the fenders? Wheel width and offset is a factor.

Typically, around 6"~8" if you cut the fenders or 8"~10" if not.

Be prepared to take some hate if you don't trim and go with a big lift as low lift and cutting is the current trend.

Like said above it just depends on several factors. What are the plans for the rig? Big difference if you are going for mall cruiser looks or trailride performance. I run 40's with only 4" of lift on my trail rig and the fenders are in no way hacked (IMO:whistle:).

Not concerned with COG I would run 6-8" and some minor cutting.

If you are gonna run trails, rocks, or anything thats gonna put you offcamber then run 4-5" and heavy cutting.

I would just run 6 and trim to fit that way the ride stays pretty decent and the COG is relatively low
