how much money do most of you have wraped up in axels?

I bought a running CUCV for $2k, used the axles, driveshaft, and tailgate then sold it for 1200 as a 1/2 ton.

Installed a D60 Detroit ($475) and upgraded to 35 spline with flanges ($400)

~$150 to upgrade the rear to discs...

so about $1825 in my axles... uhg, you had to ask.

You're lucky. My D60 needs new bearings, kingpins, and brakes. Not to mention a 4.56 and down carrier, lockright (the cheapest way to be locked up front w/o welding), gears, u-bolts, studs (top and wheel), spring plates, and a new yoke. I don't even WANT to think about cost.:1zhelp:

i dont remember exact prices, so ill guestimate

D60: (paid $800 for it)
5.13's $150
Detroit $465
warn premiums $165
35spline outers and new u-joints $200
1350 yoke $60
install kit $100

14b: (paid $100 for it)
5.13's $200
detroit $375
Disc conversion $200
install kit $100

thats roughtly $2900 :eek1:

it didnt seem that bad til you ask me to add it up. and when i first got this thing, i told myself i wasnt gona mod it :haha: :haha: what a fool i was

Edit: i keep remembering more stuff to the axles and the total keeps rising UGH

So far and not finished with either.

D44: warn shafts 450, looking at another 150 for gears, 100+ for HD cover, 100 for master install kit, 200 for u-joints. Ack - 1000.00

14 bolt: paid 75, gears with locker were 400, probably sink another 150 in disk brakes. 625.00

Adds up quick but most of it has been purchased over a year and a half so that lessens the impact. :doah:

my 60 I picked up for $400 and put about $500 into bearings and seals right away. Then another $275 for a loc-right (got from a friend who bought it used, blew it up and they waranteed it and he didn't wanna deal with it anymore). Another $75 for a stub I blew up and I have a few spare hubs laying around from dana 50/60 fords on the ranch for when I blow them up. (One day will upgrade to 35 spliners). I got my 14FF for free off the farm junkyard and have about $20 into the disk conversion and I got my detroit for free (swapped out with a friends blazer before he sold it)
