I have the 1 ton axles in, new front springs (4") and shackle flip on the rear. I noticed when I put the front driveshaft in that there is only about 4" of travel on the D-shaft splines before it comes apart. I'm sure I will have to get something longer made. How much slip would you think to be safe?

I still have to weld on the rear spring pads before I'm able to cycle the suspension.

Thanks

Have you flexed the rig out Bryan?

Our trucks need a decent amount of slip because the fact the shackle is in the back and swings forward under droop, in addition to the inherent travel arc of leaf springs under that situation. Further complicated by the fact that in an actual wheeling situation you do get axle wrap. Climbing a small hill, passenger side drooped out you put on a bit of power and the pinion will point down because of axle wrap, that can pop out the slip yoke too.

Me personally I wouldn't order anything at all without first doing some flex testing.

I have 12" of slip and use all of it

I plan to flex it out..no worries there. I was just curious what others had. Never thought I could use 12"...of slip :waytogo:

I ended up fabbing a square tube driveshaft for the front.

If you only engage the front axle while wheeling, might be worth looking into..

18" of slip.... no problem...:waytogo:

I'll probably stick with a regular shaft as this will be my hunting/winter vehicle. Play toy will be very minial with this one.
The truggy project has square shafts front and back

also be sure to check the suspension under compression also.....

I have seen more than one broken transfer case adapter / transmission case caused by the slip yoke bottoming out and slamming the front driveshaft into the transfer case under compression...:eek1:
