How much time would it take to dual action sand a hood and rear quarter? 80 grit

Strip? Depends on if it's been painted prior, condition of paint... What kind of DA, air or electric? How good the comp is, etc... For an average air setup to strip both, I'd say a couple hrs... Maybe 3 if it's not coming off easy.

The rear quarters are old paint that is flaking off. It was repainted long ago.

The hood looks like original paint, rust free. For something like that is it best to go to bare metal still?

DA SAander is a Air Dynabrade 59029 6in with central vaccum .25hp 12k rpm

Compressor is a 20 gal 5hp 120v old oil pump.

Rather then DA sand it would it be better to soda blast?

even when ya soda, you hit it with the sander after... i'd strip it with the DA, epoxy.. with 80, you'll be going thru in most spots anyway... better to have one, even substrate, as opposed to tons of featheredged paint/primer areas that could possibly cringe with primer...

the sander is fine, the 20 gal of the comp will be your limiting factor... might have to stop every few minutes to let it catch up...

How about the doors? Should that be dust less blasted/ soda blasted or DA sanded?

unless you have a pro blasting rig, it will be much slower blasting... a 20 gal tank comp will take forever to blast anything... i usually reserve blasting for hard to reach nooks and crannies like door jambs and such...

I'm thinking about farming the work out to a pro blasting rig. Is there any risk that if I DA sand the original paint that I could create heat and cause warping?

Also what are your thoughts on 230v Miller spot welders - the hand held types. Have you used these with good results?
